The 2010 Easter
Cruise
Rarely do you see on the
Canadian Government official website (www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/Strait
of Georgia South of Nanaimo) with a red
underline warning "Stormwarning". Most of us
have seen the red underline for Gale Force
Winds, but storm warning is another notch up
indicating a minimum of 48 knots or 55 MPH winds
(later measured at above 55 knots). These were
the conditions which faced our cruisers on
Friday April 2nd, the beginning of
our Easter Cruise. With white caps coming into
the marina, waves breaking over the top of the
breakwater and weather office observations at
Pam Rocks of 2.5 metres (over 8 feet) boaters
didn’t venture out or stayed in transient
shelter. Luckily 4 of our 12 cruisers,
Kama Lua, Palaran, Maple Leaf and Distant Drum,
planned ahead and made the voyage the on
Thursday or after the the extremely winds
conditions.

Most cruisers arrived by ferry
late on Friday or on Saturday and camaraderie
raised everyone’s spirits. Jule once again
led the entertainment by hosting her special
games. Everyone was given 1/3 of an Easter
puzzle and had to run around and find the other
2 pieces from the other cruisers and then sing
something about Peter Cottontail. Afterwards,
everyone enjoyed a rousing game of Bunny Bingo.
The best part of this game was that the previous
winner could choose the current winner's prize.
Thank you Jule.
On Saturday past members of
our squadron John and Sally came on the docks
and we reminisced about days gone by. Past
Commander Leo and his wife, who live in Gibsons,
joined us for dinner at Leo’s Tapas and Grill. A
total of 25 people showed up for a special lamb
roast dinner and compliments abounded for all of
the different dishes.
After a highly successful
social weekend most of us headed back and
enjoyed the ferry ride under still windy
conditions.
Thanks to Paul Adams for
arranging the hall and special thanks to Bob
Douglas whose Assistant Cruisemaster efforts
successfully added to the large turnout.
